When we were little
we'd laugh and sing
Spinning circles,
around the ring
We ran through the park
And climbed big trees
Fresh cut grass fights
And games that were free
Our imaginations
Helped us to be
Teachers, pirates,
Astronauts and royalty.
Cardboard box
And leaves in a pile
Became a boat
And the river Nile
Garden snakes
Were dragon spawn
A three day hike
Was our lawn
We ate burgers
made with mud
Made Santa's beard
with bubblebath suds.
We learned to laugh
To skip and play
Jump rope songs,
Bowls made of clay.
Red rover, freeze tag,
Monkey in the middle
These were the games
When we were little.
We blew bubbles
At the park
Played outside
From dawn to dark
We made forts
Out in the woods
Knew all the kids
in our neighborhood
It is nice to remember
we weren't bored
Playing with things
Not found in a store.
